This set of four pieces was taken from a collection originally composed for solo piano, Inspirations In C (Truluck Music 2015), created around the tonal center of C major and its related modes. Rendered for the rich colors of the brass quartet-- two trumpets, French horn, and tenor trombone--it is ideal for players at an intermediate level of difficulty. The pieces can be studied for their compositional interest or as concert repertoire, performed together as a suite or separately.

  1. Folk song in style, this piece is in Dorian and Lydian modes. It was inspired by the Hungarian composer Bela Bartok.

  2. Added sixths, major sevenths, ninths, and elevenths enrich the harmonic color.

  3. Inspired by the Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijav's works, this piece's melodic contour and harmonic choices suggest a kind of exotic flavor.

  4. Exploration of the modes of Mixolydian, Dorian, Aeolian and Phrygian as well as rhythmic motifs, articulation contrasts, and interval inversion create a lively musical adventure.
