About Dr. Carla K. Bartlett
Her teaching experiences led to a Ph.D. in Education at Claremont Graduate School followed by a faculty position at Mount St. Mary’s College where she was a Professor of Education for many years. During this time she maintained her commitment to music education as a lead instructor in the California Arts Project, designing and teaching in summer institutes and professional development programs for local school districts throughout California.
Longing for a greater emphasis on music in her teaching career, she returned to the high school music classroom in 2004 and currently teaches Band, Orchestra, World Percussion, and Guitar at Mark Keppel High School in the Alhambra Unified School District. Her commitment to music education and her skills as an educator have earned her numerous awards including the 2007 Alhambra Unified School District Teacher of the Year and the prestigious Bravo Award, an annual award by the Los Angeles Music Center acknowledging an outstanding arts educator in Los Angeles County. In 2009 she led the Alhambra Unified School District Band in the Rose Parade, which included one of her compositions, Rose Parade Cha-Cha, in the program.
While primarily a composer for piano, Carla also composes in other styles and genres, including band, orchestra, piano, accordion, small ensembles, song, and dance. Many of her compositions are available from Truluck Music at www.truluckmusic.com.
